In this two-day workshop we will get acquainted with our hand tools. The jack plane and fore plane, how they need to be set up to give great results. We will make your own set of windings sticks to get the twist out of the rough stock and a bench hook for sawing to length accurately. A shooting board to square the ends will be used. These are preindustrial age techniques that carried well into the 1950’s
On the second day we will continue planning technique and practice making mortise and tenon joints with the tools you’ve made. Other tools incorporated are the mortise chisel and marking gauge.
